Fleet Maintenance Technician (School Transportation)

The United South Central School District is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our staff at USC Public Schools.

Salary: Starting Salary of at least $38,000

Job Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Fleet Maintenance Technician to join our team in ensuring the safe, efficient operation of our school transportation vehicles. This is an entry-level position focused on basic maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of buses and other school vehicles. The ideal candidate will be able to perform routine maintenance tasks and ensure all vehicles are in good working condition, safe, and ready for daily use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic routine maintenance on school buses and other fleet vehicles (e.g., tire checks, fluid levels).

  • Conduct regular cleaning of buses and vehicles, including interior and exterior washing.

  • Inspect vehicles for basic mechanical issues, report any concerns to the Supervisor or Maintenance Lead.

  • Assist with maintaining records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and service history.

  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety and cleanliness standards for student transport.

  • Coordinate with the transportation department to ensure vehicle availability and readiness.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the maintenance area.

  • Assist in other duties as assigned by the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • CDL Class B Drivers Licence & Passenger Endorsement

  • Basic mechanical knowledge or experience with vehicle maintenance (training will be provided).

  • Ability to follow safety procedures and operate tools and equipment safely.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and walking.

  • Prior experience in vehicle maintenance or a related field is a plus, but not required.

Work Environment:
The position will involve working outdoors, in the maintenance shop, and around school buses. The role requires some physical labor, and candidates should be comfortable with manual tasks and working in various weather conditions.
